Wish List

The resources required to provide abused and neglected children in care with a caring, stable environment take many forms. The needs of each child are as unique as their various situations. Non-monetary donations help us celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other important milestones in each child’s life. Donations also let us provide things that other children may take for granted, such as bedding and school supplies. Giving to the Friends of Children of Brevard ensures that no child is left without the resources needed to thrive.

Below are several ways in which you can help. Cash donations to be used towards the wish list are also accepted and can be made by visiting our donation page.

Birthday Gifts

Children in the Guardian ad Litem Program range from Birth-23 and celebrate many milestones while in care. Personal gifts provide them with an opportunity to celebrate life events just as other children do. Some suggested donations are:

  • Movie passes
  • Fast food restaurant gift cards
  • Shopping gift cards

Holiday Gifts

Every October-December, Friends of Children of Brevard hosts an annual Holiday Wish Project. The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization partners each year with local businesses to place Angel Trees at various locations throughout Brevard County to allow community members to make a positive impact on these children. We also look to local groups and organizations to sponsor specific Holiday wishes. The nonprofit organization realizes not everyone has time during this busy season to stop by the angel trees for a request. For this reason, Friends of Children also creates an online Amazon store where purchases are shipped directly to Friends of Children to ensure the public does not have to worry about transporting the toys.

Daily Necessities

Children are often removed from the home with nothing but the clothing on their back or with only a few items thrown into a black trash bag as they are walking out the door. Children in the Guardian ad Litem Program need the same personal items as any other child…new shoes, hygiene products, school supplies, etc. These daily necessities help ensure they are well-adjusted and lead as normal a life as possible. Many children are placed in relative and non-relative care giver homes. These families receive the least support to care for a child and are often woefully unprepared to accept a new member into their household so quickly. Due to a lack of space for storage and the emergency nature of clothing needs, we request you provide monetary donations to help provide children with the clothing they need. Please consider donating the following daily necessity items we can store and distribute easily:

Clothing and Apparel

Please note that children adjust better when they are gifted new clothing. At this time we can only accept new clothing for hygiene reasons.

  • Boys: Undergarments, socks and pajamas in sizes S-XXL.
  • Girls: Undergarments, socks and pajamas in sizes S-XXL.
  • Bras and underwear for teenage girls in all sizes, Juniors 0-15/16.
  • Baby clothing in all sizes
  • Gift cards to TJMaxx, Ross, Kohls, Walmart, or Target.

About the Guardian ad Litem Program

Thousands of abused, abandoned and neglected children become the subject of judicial proceedings each year in Florida. Their voices are often unheard and best interests overlooked in the complicated and overburdened adversary process. Guardians ad Litem (GAL) are citizens who volunteer to become part of a court program to represent the best interests of an assigned child. The volunteer Guardian ad Litem is a representative for the child before the court, social service agencies and the community. He/she also protects the child during the family crisis, court proceedings, and follows the child’ progress.

About Friends of Children of Brevard

Friends of Children funds clothing, beds, bikes, computers, diapers, school supplies, luggage, holiday gifts, duffle bags and other items not provided by government agencies. We also provide these children with some basic opportunities and access to normal childhood activities.
