The Covid 19 pandemic has created a very challenging time for all of us. The closure of businesses and schools has a dramatic affect on every one of us, but none more than the children in our care. We understand that as Guardians the social distancing orders have prevented you from having personal contact with your children. Seeing a child on a video either through your phone or laptop is not nearly the same as enjoying time with them in person.
A few months ago, when the stores were depleted of diapers and wipes, Friends initiated a diaper drive to help our Caregivers. We continue to offer this service to our families in need.
Children thrive on stability but without school and limited interaction with others, it has been challenging at best to keep our kids occupied. Some schools are continuing to make available the online programs that the children were using during the last few months. As an additional learning resource for our Caregivers, we recently reinstated the Summer Bridge Book program that we started last year. This book helps “bridge” the gap from one grade to another, while providing the children with some academic review daily. We continue to receive requests for basic needs such as clothing, food and camps, but we would encourage everyone to help us provide the necessities these children need during this difficult time.
Friends is here to support you and your children. Please let us know if there is anything, we can do to help provide normalcy to a child in care.
